 Pangaea Newsletter for October

Hello, this is Nomunomu.
I left Kyoto this month and now am editing this article from Dublin, Ireland. It feels like it’s so far away right now, but one day I will look back and the gap between our countries may be large, but it will seem small to me.
When I see the happy children in Ireland, I feel a little sad as it makes me think of the children in Pangaea. I’ll see you all in a year’s time.
So, for this month we have an activity report from Ai in the Kyoto Univ. Village as well as some thoughts from two new staff members in the Honest Village.

1. New Announcement: KISSY 2016 Video!
------------------------------------------

We have a new announcement to tell you about.
A short film, directed by Natsuko Takahashi, was recently completed showing what KISSY 2016 (Kyoto International Summer School for Youth) was like. Please take a look at it at the link below.

I believe the video really show how the all of the children matured in their own way during their short week.
Please make sure to check it out!

2. Kyoto Univ. Village Activity Report - Ai -
------------------------------------------

For September’s activity in the Kyoto Univ. Village, everyone put together a piece of work from their summer memories.

Using images and animations, which were made with Viscuit, they were able to tell us about their memories from summer vacation in any way they liked. Everyone watched the video of KISSY, which took place this summer, when they took a break. Some of the children drew pictures of their summer vacation memories of KISSY, and it made me also think back to my time taking part in KISSY. Other children did the house-building activity.

Once the children completed their creations, house-building and such, they were uploaded to Pangaea Net. Anyone who takes part in Pangaea can see these, and I’m happy that so many children are interested in their wonderful houses and the fun summer they had!

3. Thoughts on your first time facilitator at Honest Village

■ Kobayashi
I took part as a volunteer for the first time in Pangaea. I drew pictures with elementary school students, and also tried using Pangaea Net.
My first impression was that the students are full of creative energy. While I was thinking deeply about what kind of thing I should draw, the children on the other hand drew whatever they wanted to and soon they completed their drawing without any hesitation.
I also thought back a lot on my memories from being in elementary school; it was very nostalgic for me. I’m usually around people my own age so it was an experience I wouldn't have felt ordinarily.

■ Kawada
I took part as a volunteer for the first time in Pangaea! Using Pangaea Net, I came up with and drew my own picture of a house and a room with the elementary school students, as well as watching the KISSY movie.
While talking to the students, I listened with interest to what they’re doing in school, what’s currently in. and so on. I don’t have a lot of contact with elementary school students in my everyday life, so I really felt the difference between my point of view and that of those younger than me.
Furthermore, I really felt just how powerful the students’ passion is!
