 Pangaea Newsletter for August

Hello. This is Jyoko who be in charge of Newsletter. We are at the KISSY(Kyoto Intercultural Summer School for Youths)right now! This year the children from five countries came to Kyoto and they are co-creating. This year’s theme is WE LOVE ○○. Even Yuki and Nomunomu are so busy, they wrote us about things they discovered and realized.

2015 KISSY has started.
On Day 3, with the help of CAMP(Children’s art museum and park), we did the workshop using a small computer called “CRICKET.” The member was divided into 4 teams and each team has started to work on their exercise.

This year's theme is "WE LOVE."

During yesterday's discussion using the translation tool "KISSY TOOL," kids looked quite absorbed in thought when I gave this topic "WE LOVE," unlike the previous topic of discussion "I LOVE."

Their inspiration from "I LOVE" were "Family," "Baseball," "Cats," "Painting" etc. And today, with "WE LOVE," they shared words such as "Earth," "Family," "Friends," and "Living matters."
With these key words, kids have started to create their own world. I already see a magnificent outcome through their work with the aim of the harmony between the animals, the nature and the people.

There are 8 characters in this work, namely, 7 Team yellow members and the leader. I may shed a tear when the work is completed.

What surprises me the most is the kids' ability to foster the friendship very adaptively as they deepen their level of involvement. On the first day, the kids who have participated in the last year's program took the leadership to care the others.

However, after they spent a day and night together, they had started to mingle, first with someone who speaks the same language, and then with other language speakers. On Day 3, the majority of the kids built the good relationship and calling out each other looking for someone to play with.

They now remember my name and call my name, which actually is a great joy for me. However, as they are more and more associated, some issues peculiar to their close relationship may arise. I am slightly concerned how to handle such human relationship issues in the latter half of the program.
