 YMC Viet Project Special Feature

Since late September, we started to prepare for the Youth Mediated Communication Model (YMC) Viet Project. A meeting was held with with Professor Quan from the Ho Chi Minh School of the National University of Vietnam as well as Mr Hoa from the Ministry of Agriculture in Vietnam. In the beginning of October, the project kicked off to a successful start.

There were 15 Vietnamese children participating in the project this time, half the number of participants in the previous project. One of the aims of the present project was to improve the communication between the children and the Japanese experts, an area which was identified as one in need of improvement from the previous project.

Professor Ishida from Kyoto University, Professor Ninomiya from Tokyo University, Professor Ikeda from the Tokyo University of Agriculture, as well as Mie University again lent their expertise and support for the project. The participation of these experts enabled the specialized knowledge and information in agriculture to be shared with the local community through the children.

Four activities have already been carried out in October. The YMC Viet Center is busy with participants sending activity reports from the field. At the Center, a multilingual communication platform developed by Pangaea over a period of seven years with the support of Kyoto University is being used. We use this platform for communication every week with the local staff who do not speak English at all to solve problems in the field.

Pangaea will be celebrating 10 years of its founding next year. We will continue to build on the platforms we have established for children's activities, with the aim of supporting the activities in the community and society at large.

On 7 January next year, a gathering is scheduled for those involved in the project to discuss how to best perpetuate this project. We look forward to everyone's support for this project.

Pangaea moves to new office
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On 29 October 2012, Pangaea moved to a new office location! The new office is approximately 7-minute's walk from Shijo Kawaramachi, down Teramachi-suji and across Takatsuji-dori. There is a shop selling Oden on the first floor and an Indian restaurant next door. Teramachi-suji is like the Akihabara of Tokyo, with shops selling electronic peripherals. The office is a little small but it is a lovely office nevertheless. If you happen to be in Kyoto, do come by and drop us a visit!

This is our new address:

Zou Bldg. #301, 509 Kyogokucho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto 600-8035, Japan
